Demco 4-Diode Universal Towed Vehicle Wiring Kit Installation - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at installing the Demco Diode Wiring for Towed Vehicles on a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now there's five main components required when flat towing a vehicle and starting on the vehicle side, it's gonna be your base plate. And base plate is going to attach to the structural frame or at least bumper supports of a vehicle, creating a solid mounting point. It's also gonna create other mounting points for your other components, including your tow bar. So your tow bar's gonna attach to the arms and that's gonna be the connection point between the base plate and the hitch on the RV. Now going along with that, we also have our safety chains and that's going to make sure in case of a disconnect, we still have the cables attached to the vehicle. more

Now there's also gonna be your safety cables, which are gonna attach to that base plate and they're integrated into it, and that's also going to attach to the hitch on the RV. So in case we do have a disconnect, we still have those cables holding everything together. Now you're also gonna need a braking system which is gonna allow you to slow and stop, have that towed vehicle do the same thing as you apply those brakes on the RV. more

Hey everybody. Rob here at etrailer.com, and today we're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster seven wire to six wire Flexo-Coil wiring kit. Now, if you do want to flat tow your Jeep behind your motor home, so that way we can get to the campsite and, go out to eat, maybe run an errand without having to take our motor home. But the problem comes in, we have to have those signals just like when you're towing a trailer so we can safely get down the road and make sure everybody around us knows what's going on, and the advantage of our diodes is that it is going to allow us to get those signals to the back of our tail lights, and it's going to use our factory tail lights and bulbs, so we're not going to have to worry about an extra bulb inside of our lens or using magnetic lights.Magnetic lights do work, but we're going to have to find somewhere to put them on our Jeep, run the wire up to the back of our motor home. And then while we're driving down the road that wire bouncing up and down, rubbing against the paint could eventually scratch it. And our diodes, as you can see, they're not going to change any kind of outward appearance of our Jeep. more

As you can see what's great about this is that it utilizes the factory lights on our vehicle, so we don't have to deal with using a magnetic tow light when we want to flat tow our Grand Cherokee behind our motor home. Now, what sets this apart from other options out there is that by utilizing diodes, not only do we get to utilize our factory lights in the vehicle, but it also protects our expensive electrical components from any back feed of voltage from our motor home, so we don't have to worry about any damage happening to those components. What many of our customers like about this is it's one less thing they have to worry about. They don't have to worry about storing a pair of magnetic tow lights or the paint on their vehicle getting scratched from the light slipping and sliding on the surface. With this, you simply plug in one connection to your motor home and that's it. You don't have to worry about flipping any switches either because as soon as you unplug it and you want to drive your vehicle as normal, the factory lights work without any user intervention. Here's what it looks like on the front of our vehicle. We've got diodes that are going to present back-feed from the car to the motorhome or from the motorhome to the car so it's a really nice, very well-protected system. To remove the tail light assemblies, we'll first need to remove the two screw fasteners and then gently pop the tail light out of it's position, being careful not to break the alignment tab underneath. Then we'll go ahead and remove the tail light assembly from the manufacturers wiring by removing the wiring from the socket. To do this, we'll first need to unlock the connector at the red locking tab. Overtime, these locking tabs can really stiffen up and be difficult to move, so I'll go ahead and use a flat blade screwdriver to gently pry it to the unlocked position, then we'll press on the connector lock and remove it from the socket assembly. Now I can go ahead and set the tail light aside. Next, we'll repeat the same process on the passenger side. Blue Ox Tail Light Wiring Kit Installation - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

All right today on this 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee were going to install part number BX8869 from Blue Ox. Our first step is go ahead and run our wire from the front to rear on our vehicle. When we do that we want to make sure we stay away from anything thats moving like the suspension component or anything hot like the exhaust. Okay, to route our wire what we do is start at the front immediately behind the radiator going straight up and go over the frame and around and behind the steering box, the non-moving part. Then we go up and over and around the bottom part of the air box and then back down around the frame below the steering shaft. Weve got plenty of room there and then we took a fish wire and we actually ran to one of the holes existing in a frame and we were able to run it back towards the rear axle and pull out our wire there. more
